1. Scope
This Bot Policy applies to anyone who adds JSD to a Discord server, configures /setup, or grants jail-moderator permissions. End-user expectations (for jailed members) are in the User Policy.
2. Invite and permissions
Only invite JSD to servers you are authorized to administer. Grant only the permissions required for detention (roles, channels, messaging, and ban where used). Place the bot's role above the jail role and any roles it must manage.
Do not request or store the bot token, and do not run unofficial builds claiming to be JSD.
3. Intended use
JSD is designed for temporary, auditable detention as a moderation tool:
- Time-bounded (or explicitly indefinite) jails with logged reasons and categories
- Appeals channels for fair review by staff
- Automatic release when timers expire
- Clear channel structure so jailed members know where they can speak
Configure public info channels and server rules so members understand how detention works in your community.
4. Prohibited bot use
Operators must not use JSD to:
- Violate Discord Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, or local law
- Run scams, phishing, malware distribution, or illegal marketplaces
- Target people for protected characteristics or engage in coordinated harassment
- Jail users solely to silence lawful whistleblowing or safety reports to Discord
- Spam commands, automate abuse, or overload Discord or JSD infrastructure
- Resell access to the official JSD instance without authorization
5. Fair moderation
Jail decisions are yours, but we expect good-faith use: document reasons, prefer proportionate durations, and honor the appeal path you enable. Indefinite ("Forever") jails should be exceptional and reviewable by your staff.
Do not use JSD as a substitute for Discord's Trust and Safety when content requires platform reporting.
6. Data stewardship
Case records and guild configuration are stored to operate the bot (see the Privacy Policy). As an operator you should:
- Limit jail-mod roles to trusted staff
- Avoid putting unnecessary personal data in jail reasons or notes
- Use
/rework-jsdcarefully. It clears structure and config but keeps case history.
7. Availability and blacklist
We may refuse service to servers that abuse JSD, harm the network, or create legal risk. Operator blacklists (including via JSD Control) may cause the bot to leave or ignore a guild.
Planned downtime or incidents may be reflected on the Status page when available.
8. Pro features
Custom categories, web moderation, analytics, and related Pro tools are licensed per Discord server. Circumventing plan checks, sharing a single Pro seat across unrelated guilds in bad faith, or exploiting billing bugs is prohibited and may result in suspension.
9. Enforcement
Violations may result in warnings, feature limits, removal of the bot from a server, account suspension on jsd.vexoris.dev, or a permanent blacklist. Serious illegal activity may be reported to Discord or authorities.
10. Contact
Operator questions or appeals of enforcement: contact Vexoris via jsd.vexoris.dev. Also see the Terms of Service.
