Escalation System

Warn and mute points that build toward auto-jail.

2 min readAdvanced

JSD offers a staff-facing ladder below full detention. Instead of immediately jailing for every infraction, moderators can issue warnings and mutes that accumulate points. When a member's score reaches the configured threshold, they are jailed automatically.

How it works

Issuing warnings and mutes

  • /warn: formal warning, adds points to the member's record
  • /mute: timeout, adds points to the member's record

Both commands add a configurable number of points within a rolling window.

Auto-jail threshold

When the member's total points within the rolling window reach or exceed the threshold, JSD automatically jails them:

  • Duration: 24 hours (default)
  • Category: Other
  • Reason: "Auto-jailed due to escalation"
  • A mod-log embed records when the auto-jail fires

Member reports

Members can file /reports at any time. Each report lands in the mod log and in /jsd-history for staff review. However, member reports never trigger an auto-jail on their own; only staff-issued warns and mutes do.

Configuration

Admins configure the escalation system from the web dashboard:

Server → Settings → Escalation

SettingDescriptionDefault
Auto-jail thresholdPoints needed to trigger auto-jailConfigurable
Rolling windowTime period in which points count30 days
Warn pointsPoints per /warnConfigurable
Mute pointsPoints per /muteConfigurable

Viewing scores

Staff see the current score next to every warn or mute action. The full infraction history is available via:

  • /jsd-history @user: complete jail and infraction history
  • Web dashboard: server analytics page

Best practices

  1. Start mild: use low-point warns for first offences
  2. Escalate gradually: increase point values for repeat offenders
  3. Set a reasonable threshold: too low jails for minor issues, too high lets repeat offenders slide
  4. Review regularly: check /jsd-history to see if the system is working fairly
  5. Document reasons: always provide a clear reason with /warn and /mute so the auto-jail context is clear
