Invite the Bot
How to add JSD to your Discord server.
1 min readGetting Started
Use the invite button on this site to add JSD to your server.
Quick invite
The green Invite bot button (top of the docs, or on the wiki homepage) adds JSD to your server with the Administrator permission pre-selected. You need the Manage Server permission to invite bots.
Permissions
JSD requests the following permissions when invited:
- Manage Roles: strip and restore member roles, manage the jail role
- Manage Channels: create jail categories, channels, and appeal channels
- Ban Members: used when staff ban from an appeal
- View Channels: read channel structure for setup
- Send Messages: post mod-log embeds, jail chat, and DMs
- Embed Links: rich embeds in mod log and jail chat
- Read Message History: access context for cases
The invite button asks for Administrator so none of these can be missed on setup. JSD only ever uses the permissions listed above, and you can remove Administrator from JSD's role in Server Settings at any time.
After inviting
- Drag the bot role above the jail role and above any roles it must strip
- Discord will not allow the bot to manage roles at or above its highest role
- Run
/setupas an administrator to configure the server
Role hierarchy
The bot role must be the highest role it needs to manage. This means:
- Bot role > Jail role
- Bot role > Any role that jailed members currently have
If the bot cannot strip a role (e.g., a managed role or a role above the bot), it warns in the mod log instead of failing.
