Server Setup
The /setup wizard for roles, channels, timezone, and DM template.
An administrator must run /setup before JSD does anything useful. The wizard walks through each setting step by step.
Setup steps
1. Jail role
Pick an existing role or create a new one called Jailed. This role is applied to detained members and denied access to most channels.
2. Jail mod role
Choose the role for staff who can:
- Run
/jail,/release,/case, and other moderation commands - View and act on appeal channels
- See the full case record
Administrators can always run these commands regardless of role.
3. Channel structure
Build the JSD categories automatically, or point JSD at your own channels. The default structure creates:
JSD Info #jsd-info public, read-only: how detention works
#jsd-mod-log mods only: the audit log
JSD Appeal (private appeal channels, one per case)
JSD Jail #jsd-jail-chat jailed members + mods only
Re-running structure only creates what is missing, so it is safe to run multiple times.
4. Timezone
Set an IANA timezone name (e.g., America/New_York, Europe/London) for timestamps in the mod log and case records.
Quick setup
The first screen of the wizard offers a Quick setup button. This builds everything in one press: creates the roles, channels, and sets a default timezone. You can customize everything afterward.
DM template
The final summary screen lets you edit the jail DM template. These tokens are available:
| Token | Replaced with |
|---|---|
{user} | The jailed member's mention |
{guild} | The server name |
{reason} | The jail reason |
{duration} | The jail duration |
{case_id} | The case ID number |
The template is sent as a DM to the member when they are jailed.
Checking your setup
Run /jsd-config to see a read-only summary of the current setup and escalation settings. This helps verify that everything is configured correctly.
